Gender-reveal parties have been all the hype over the past couple of years. More and more parents are choosing to only reveal the gender of their babies (even to themselves) at an official gathering with close friends and family. It has become yet another baby party and milestone to add on the list; it is yet another occasion to celebrate both the parents-to-be and the little one baking inside.
While gender-reveal parties have often been accompanied by a huge gathering and get together with family and friends, a fun-filled afternoon of games and quizzes, or even, a pinãta to finally reveal the baby's gender, we are now stuck with online gender-reveal parties via Zoom. The COVID-19 situation has taken over and what was meant to be a big celebration is now a smaller and more intimate one over the screen.
But just because the festivities are on the screen does not mean there is no reason to celebrate! Just because COVID-19 is here to stay this season does not mean we can't enjoy this milestone and be in on the surprise!
Here are 3 must-have things to host the perfect gender-reveal party... over Zoom:

1. A Gender-Neutral Theme
We don't need to be in person together to have a good party. A party consists of the energy and the presence of everyone in the (virtual) room! And how best to pump up the energy and excitement than with a fun, gender-neutral theme.
Whether your chosen theme is the colours of the rainbow, or confetti, or the stars and the moon... get the invitations going as you would for a normal physical party, create a simple backdrop just to fit within your camera's range, and get everyone dressed in your fun theme and colours! Perhaps, you could even get them to dress in pink or blue depending on which gender they think will win!

2. The Most Exciting Gender-Revealer
Think about how you're going to reveal the baby's gender! You can choose to do so by a customised cake - you know, the ones where you cut and a pink or blue layer inside will be revealed, together with the gender of your baby? You can also choose to use coloured confetti bombs and have everyone shoot the confetti bomb at the same time in your respective homes. The fun is worth the mess, indeed.
Think about what can garner the most excitement, participation, and fun even on the screen, and just go for it! Go crazy and go wild - after all, this is the most important segment of any gender-reveal party.
3. Gender-Neutral Prezzies
What's a party without presents? And of course, since no one knows the gender of the little bubba just yet, gender-neutral presents are the way to go. Opt for common colours like white, cream, yellow, green, or even purple that are great for both a baby boy and a baby girl.
If you'd like to take it a step further, you may also choose to save a wishlist of gifts that you've already got your eyes on for your friends and family. That way, you can not only save the time taken for them to find a gift for you and the baby, but you can also be sure that you will adore everything you receive.
Here are a couple of gender-neutral gifts that we think will be perfect for this occasion:
ABC's of Animal Baby Box
It's never too early to get started on one's ABC's! Get prepared early with our Animal Alphabet Flash Cards and ABC's of Animals romper. And, of course, not forgetting our comfy Hooded Bear Knitted Sweater that will complete the combination.
Fun with Nature BoxIf you're a fan of prints and love Halcyon Nights as much as we do, our Fun with Nature Box is the perfect one for you and your bubba. This box is our little ode to nature all around us, featuring our Megafauna Baby Wrap, Megafauna Baby Bib, as well as one pair of organic mittens by 8amApparel and one Doddle & Co Chew teethers.
Welcome to the World Box
And of course, we can't forget our signature and best-selling Welcome to the World Box, a box perfect for newborns and new parents with just the essentials you need. This box includes an organic cotton romper, a POP by Doddle & Co, a mini diaper bag, and a pack of natural fashion diapers and wet wipes.
Whatever the case and whatever you do, your baby's gender-reveal party should be a whole lot of fun. You should celebrate the journey that you are on as parents-to-be as well as celebrate the life that is growing inside of you. The situation around the world now cannot take that joy and spirit of celebration away from you!
Happy planning!
